What BLCKOUT collects, who can see it, how long it’s kept, and the choices you have.
1. Information you give us
- Your email address and password, to create your account and sign in.
- Your username, a name if you add one, and whether you show that name in Nights.
- The Nights you start or join, and the Groups you create or join.
- Your Moments: the text, photos and videos you add to a Night.
- Reports you send, including the reason and anything you write.
- Anything you send to support.
2. Information created as you use BLCKOUT
- When your account was created and when you last signed in.
- When you joined each Night and Group, and who hosts each Night.
- When each Moment was added, and the type, size, dimensions and length of each photo or video file.
- The Nights you pin or archive, and the people you block.
- Recent failed attempts to join a Night or Group with a code, so guessing codes can be slowed down.
Photos are saved as a new, resized copy before they upload. Videos are uploaded as the file you choose, so anything stored inside that file, which can include when and where it was recorded, goes with it. The originals in your library are never changed.
3. On your iPhone
Some things are stored on your iPhone: your sign-in session, uploads that haven’t finished, your reminder and Reduce Motion settings, and an invite you opened before signing in.
Reminders you turn on are scheduled by your iPhone and show the Night’s name.
4. How BLCKOUT uses your information
- To create your account, sign you in, and send account emails such as confirmation and password reset links.
- To run your Nights: who’s in them, what each person can see, and when they reveal.
- To store your Moments and show them only to the people allowed to see them.
- To keep BLCKOUT safe, for example by slowing down repeated join attempts, enforcing blocks, and reviewing reports.
- To reply when you contact support.
BLCKOUT has no ads and no third-party analytics or tracking.
5. Who can see your content
A Night is private to the people in it. There’s no public feed, nothing to browse, and no followers.
- In Hidden Mode, until the reveal, you see your own Moments in full. Of everyone else’s, you see only who added one, what kind it is and when. Nobody, including the host, can see more early.
- In Live Mode, everyone in the Night sees Moments as they’re added.
- After the reveal, everyone in the Night can see all of its Moments.
- People in a Night or a Group can see each other’s usernames.
- Your name is shown only to you unless you choose to show it, either when you set up your account or with Show my name in Nights in your profile. Then people in a Night with you see it on your Moments, in recaps and in the member list. People you’ve blocked, or who’ve blocked you, don’t see it, and you can turn it off at any time.
- If you block someone, or they block you, neither of you sees the other’s Moments.
- If you leave a Night or are removed from it, you lose access to it. What you added stays with the people still there.
Hosts have no special access to anyone’s Moments. The people who run BLCKOUT can access stored information when it’s needed to keep the service working or to review a report.
6. Where it’s stored and how it’s protected
BLCKOUT runs on Supabase, which provides our database, sign-in, file storage and server functions. Your information is stored in the United States.
Photos and videos are kept in private storage, never at a public address. To show one, BLCKOUT asks for a link that only someone allowed to see it can get, and each link stops working after 30 minutes.
BLCKOUT connects to its servers over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t promise your information will never be accessed without permission.
7. Reports and safety
When you report a Moment or a person, we keep who sent the report, who it’s about, the Night, the Moment if there is one, the reason, and anything you wrote. The Moment itself isn’t copied into the report.
Reports are never shown to the person reported, to the host, or to anyone else in the Night. Only the people who run BLCKOUT can read them.
Reports are reviewed by the people who run BLCKOUT within 24 hours.
A Moment that breaks the rules can be taken down. Taken down photos and videos are then deleted from storage.
Blocks are stored so they can be enforced. Only you can see who you’ve blocked.
8. How long it’s kept
BLCKOUT doesn’t delete information on a schedule. It’s kept until it’s removed:
- A Moment stays in its Night until you remove it (photos and videos), it’s taken down after a report, or you delete your account.
- Removed photos and videos are deleted from storage automatically, shortly after they’re removed.
- Failed attempts to join with a code are deleted after about a week.
- Reports are kept, even after an account they involve is deleted, so a safety problem can still be looked into.
9. Deleting your account
You can delete your account in More, under Account. That permanently removes:
- your account and the details you sign in with
- every Moment you added, including the photo and video files
- your username, display name and the rest of your profile
- your pinned Nights, your place in every Night and Group, and any blocks involving you
A Night you hosted stays with the people still in it, and whoever joined it earliest becomes its host. A Group you own passes to its earliest member, or is deleted if nobody else is in it.
Reports you sent, and reports about you, are kept. They identify accounts and give the reason. They don’t contain your Moments.
Deleting your account can’t be undone.
10. Your choices
- Allow or turn off camera and photo access in More, or in your iPhone’s Settings.
- Reminders stay off until you turn them on.
- Remove your own photos and videos from a Night at any time.
- Leave any Night you didn’t start.
- Block or unblock people. Your list is in More.
- Delete your account.
11. Age
BLCKOUT is only for people 18 or older.
12. Contact
