Help

Quick answers about how a Night works.

Starting a Night

Tap Start a Night on Home, give it a name, and choose Hidden or Live. Then share the code, the QR code or the invite link with the people you want there.

A Night reveals at the next 9:00 AM where you are, and capture closes two hours before that. You can be in one active Night at a time.

Joining a Night

Tap Join a Night on Home and enter the code, or scan the Night’s QR code. An invite link opens BLCKOUT ready to join.

New people can’t join once capture has closed, or after the host closes the Night to new members.

Groups

A Group keeps the people you go out with in one place. You’ll find Groups on the Nights tab.

Start a Night from a Group and it’s listed there for everyone in the Group. They still join it with the Night’s code.

Your name in Nights

You can choose to show a first or preferred name when you set up your account. To add or change it later, go to Profile, then Edit profile, and turn on Show my name in Nights. People in a Night with you then see it on your Moments, in recaps and in the member list.

Until you do, they see your @username. Two people can share a name, so the member list always shows each person’s username too.

Hidden Mode

Hidden Mode is the default. Until the reveal, you see only your own Moments and everyone else’s stay sealed. Nobody, including the host, can look early.

In Live Mode, everyone in the Night sees Moments as they’re added.

Capture and reveal

You can add Moments until capture closes. The host can close it early.

At the reveal, the whole Night opens for everyone in it. Open the Night to watch it back as a recap.

Photos and videos

Add a photo, or a video up to 30 seconds long, from your camera or your library.

You can remove your own photos and videos from a Night at any time. Text Moments can’t be removed.

Upload problems

Uploads keep going while you use BLCKOUT, and pick up where they left off when you reopen it with a connection.

If one needs you, it appears in Pending uploads in More, where you can retry or discard it.

Leaving or removing someone

To leave a Night, open its menu and choose Leave Night. What you added stays for the people still there. A host can’t leave their own Night.

A host can remove a person from the Night’s menu, under Remove someone, or from the list of people in the Night. The Night then gets a new code.

Reporting and blocking

Touch and hold someone’s Moment to report it or block them. You can also tap the people in a Night, or use the More button on a Moment in a recap.

When you block someone, you won’t see each other’s Moments and you can’t be in a new Night together. Your list is in More, under Blocked users.
